Candy Corn Decor

Candy Corn Decor – Reuse Food Jars

Create this fun Candy Corn Decor by reusing your glass food jars!

Candy Corn Decor

Here is fun Candy Corn Decoration to celebrate National Candy Corn Day (yes, it’s a thing). Warning: I kept this super simple. I started with gathering my White House Foods® applesauce and apple butter jars. I washed and removed the label glue by soaking the jars in hot water, dish soap, and White House Foods® White Distilled Vinegar. Once they soaked for at least 15 minutes, I scrubbed the glue with a dish brush.

Candy Corn Decor

For this craft, I kept it simple. I used candy corn and pumpkins. I filled the jars to desired height, placed a tea light inside, and done! You could easily add decorative ribbon around the outside or mod podge for a foggy effect.

Apple Butter Cheesecake Bars

Apple Butter Cheesecake Bar Recipe

White House Foods® Apple Butter + Cheesecake Bar = A heavenly combination

This recipe is perfect for Fall. Thanksgiving? Halloween Party? Sunday Dessert? Office Party? This is a sure hit recipe!

If you are an apple butter fan, you’re going to need this recipe. As always, it’s simple… (a must for me) and it’s also delicious (also a must)!

The recipe is below, but be sure to refrigerate overnight before serving. This is crucial for texture and flavor. Also, I highly recommend White House Foods® Apple Butter. It is made in Winchester, Virginia with American grown apples. You can find it at your local Wal-Mart, Food Lion, or online here!

What you’ll need:

For the crust:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the cheesecake layer:
  • 1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg at room temp
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
For topping:
How to make it:
  • Preheat oven to 350°
  • First the crust: Cut butter into small pieces. Beat together the butter and flour until it is thoroughly combined into crumbly pieces. Place the crust mixture into an ungreased 13×9 baking dish. Pat the crust evenly into the dish with your hands. Bake the crust for 15 minutes. Remove and cool. I placed mine into the fridge to speed up this process.
  • Next the cheesecake mixture: Beat together the cream cheese and sugar until smooth then add in the egg and vanilla. Beat on medium until evenly combined. Set this mixture to the side.
  • Then the topping: Cut butter into small pieces. In a bowl, use a fork to mix the flour, confectioners’ sugar, butter pieces, pecans, and salt. This mixture will not be smooth. You should have a crumbly/coarse texture. Set to the side.
  • Make the magic happen: Take the cooled crusted and spread the cream cheese mixture on top evenly. Leave an edge around the outside perimeter to from “crust.” Next, spread a thin layer for White House Foods® Apple Butter over the cream cheese layer. Last, sprinkle the crumb topping over the top evenly.
  • Bake for 40 minutes. Remove and cool. Cover and store in refrigerator overnight before cutting into square bars.

Let me know if you try them! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

xoxo,

Brittany

Halloween Goodie Bag Tie DIY

Halloween Safety Tips & Goodie Bag Tags

Let’s talk about Halloween Safety

Halloween Goodie Bag Tie DIY

Here are some trick-or-treat safety tips with a fun printable Halloween Goodie Bag Printable.

Whether you and you’re family are out and about trick-or-treating OR spend the evening handing out candy, here are 5 tips for staying safe!

  1. If you hand out candy, consider making individual goodie bags to avoid multiple hands going into a candy bowl. I created this fun Halloween Goodie Bag Printable you can easily print and attach to your bags to make them special and festive! Click the link for the free printable.
  2. Offer an allergy friendly option! Here are some ideas: White House Foods® apple sauce cups, glow sticks, pencils, etc. You can order apple sauce cups here.
  3. Make sure costumes are sized properly to avoid tripping. Walk. Don’t run, like ever. Stay on the sidewalk. Only cross the street when it is necessary, look both ways, AND do not assume you have the right of way.
  4. Stick to neighborhoods you know. Accept candy from the step or porch. Never, ever enter a home. If you are unsure about the neighborhoods in your area, check out local trunk or treat events. Typically, churches, businesses, schools, etc. put these on for a safe trick or treating experience!
  5. If you are handing out candy, offer a sanitizing station. If you are trick or treating, bring sanitizer with you.

It’s never too early to start prepping for a FUN, and spooky SAFE Halloween!

5 Ways to Care for Pets

5 Ways to Care For Your Pet with White Distilled Vinegar

Here’s 5 simple ways to use White House Vinegar to care for your pets.
Pet care should be simple right? It should also be safe! Here are 5 natural ways to care for your pets using non-toxic White Distilled Vinegar.

1. Fleas & Ticks – Add a teaspoon of White House White Distilled Vinegar for each quart bowl of drinking water. This helps keep your pet free of fleas and ticks. (The ratio of one teaspoon to one quart is for a 40 pound animal, so adjust accordingly.)

2. Yeast or Bacteria – Vinegar can be used to cats, dogs, or rabbits ears to keep them healthy and clean as well as treating for yeast or bacteria. Dilute White House White Distilled Vinegar with water. Use cotton swabs.

3. Pet Arthritis – Pour White House White Distilled Vinegar on compress and soak joints.

4. After “Accidents” – Spray White House White Distilled Vinegar over fresh doggie accidents on carpets. Wait a few minutes, then sponge form the center out. Blot up with dry cloth. Repeat for stubborn stains. First be sure to test the carpet for color fastness with vinegar in an inconspicuous place.

5. In the unfortunate event of.. Skunk Smell – If the dog is sprayed by a skunk, wash pet in solution of equal amounts of White House White Distilled Vinegar and water. Rinse with clear water, followed by another dousing of water/vinegar solution. For second rinse, make the solution a tad weaker.
I hope you found these helpful! If you have any questions, send me a message here or find me on social @coldcoffeegrind
