Fight, Focus, & Renew

It’s no secret here, I am a HUGE fan of organic apple cider vinegar. Let me rephrase that, I am HUGE fan of the benefits…the taste, that will grow on you!

Organic ACV has been a part of daily routine for almost ten years now. I started my ACV regimen by taking 2 tablespoons each morning. While I stick with that routine a majority of the time, I have found some ways to make my ACV regimen a little more enjoyable, effective, and taste better.

If you’re new here, check out my post on White House Foods DETOX drink. This is my monthly detox drink which is made with Organic ACV with mother. I drink one bottle of Detox for 7 days each month. You can read more here!

Onto these NEW drinks… FIGHT, FOCUS, & RENEW!

These drinks are all made with organic apple cider vinegar with mother, are ready to drink (although I prefer to refrigerate,) and taste delicious! These drinks are NOT a substitute for my monthly Detox but I do like to trade them out for my daily dose of ACV.

Here’s a little description of each flavor:

  • FIGHT: orange, ginger, and turmeric
    • ingredients known to help boost the immune system.

  • FOCUS: blueberry, green tea, and ginsengFocus

Chemical Free Cleaning Hack: For the Bathroom & Laundry

I recently made the switch to using all chemical-free, non-toxic cleaners. Check out the full video for some extremely easy and low budget ways to clean your sink, bathtub and shower, and an easy chemical-free fabric softener.

All cleaners use White House Foods® White Distilled Vinegar and items that can easily be found in your pantry. I also love substituting the White House Foods® Scented Cleaning Vinegar for regular White Distilled Vinegar, but both work for ALL of the mixtures used in the video and listed  below! I hope you guys enjoy this video! All cleaning mixtures and instructions are listed below!

Sink Bowl Cleaner: Fill a spray bottle with White Distilled Vinegar, spray sink bowl thoroughly with vinegar, then sprinkle baking soda on top. Let the baking soda sit and vinegar sit for 30 minutes. Use warm water and a sponge to scrub and rinse sink bowl.

Drain Cleaner: Pour 2 tablespoons of White Distilled Vinegar down the drain and let sit overnight. Then in the morning, turn the water on warm and let run for a few minutes. Do this weekly for drain maintenance.

Faucet Cleaner: Pour about a 1/4 cup of White Distilled Vinegar in a baggie and wrap around the head of the faucet. Use a rubber-band to secure the baggie to the faucet overnight. After it sits overnight, remove the baggie of vinegar and run warm water. Do this monthly.

Tub & Shower Cleaner: Fill a spray bottle with White Distilled Vinegar, spray the tub/shower thoroughly with vinegar, then sprinkle baking soda on top. Let the baking soda sit and vinegar sit for 30 minutes. Use warm water and a sponge to scrub and rinse!

Shower Door Cleaner: Fill a spray bottle with White Distilled Vinegar, spray shower door with vinegar. Use a dry microfiber towel to wipe away residue.

Bathroom Floor Cleaner: Mix half a gallon of warm water with half of cup of White Distilled Vinegar in a bowl. Using a mop or sponge, scrub the floor with the mixture. For floors with tile, using a brush and the mixture to scrub stained grout. Mop or sponge and excess water. Let air dry or dry with a towel.

Fabric Softener: Use White House Scented Cleaning Vinegar OR regular White Distilled as a fabric softener replacement. Pour the same amount of vinegar as you would fabric softener. Vinegar creates the same result without all the unnecessary chemicals!

Chemical-Free Cleaning Hacks: Living & Bedroom

Before becoming a mom, I really didn’t think twice about the cleaning products I was using or the chemicals they were filled with. If they smelled good and made my house look shiny, it was good in my book.

After becoming a mom, you get sent one article about how your floor cleaner can burn your infant’s skin and you quickly start to pay a little more attention.

I wouldn’t classify myself as a helicopter or Pinterest mom. I am more of you-gotta-do-what-you-gotta-do, it’s a Chick-fil-a for dinner, cold coffee drinking mom. So, when I say that I am sharing some simple replacements for your everyday cleaning products, I mean these are totally doable for the non-Pinterest mom too!

These are my go-to cleaning mixes for the living and bedroom using ! After doing a little research, I chose white vinegar as my base for most of my cleaning because it’s non-toxic, yet kills germs. These recipes are great for kid and pet friendly homes! I will be sharing bath, kitchen, and outdoor cleaning hacks in the next few weeks.

For a video tutorial click HERE!

Cleaning Recipes:

Carpet/Rug Cleaner: Fill a with equal parts of water and white distilled vinegar. Spray desired area, you may want to test a small area if colors tend to run. Let soak for a few minutes and then scrub with a towel. Next, sprinkle a thin layer of on top. Let sit for an odor. Complete by vacuuming baking soda residue.

Wood Furniture Polish/Conditioner: Mix 1 cup of , 1/4 , 2-3 of (I use orange). Dip a or rag into mixture and polish furniture. For best results, polish in the direction of the grain.

Mattress Cleaner: Mix with a just a tad of in aEvery time you change your sheets, spray the mixture your mattress down and let dry before replacing sheets. For a deeper clean (recommended once a month), sprinkle a layer of after spraying mattress with mixture. Let the sprayed mixture and baking soda sit for an hour and then mattress.

Window Cleaner: Mix half water and half in a . Spray directly on glass or towel, whichever you prefer, and wipe down your glass for a streak-free clean!

Blinds Cleaner: Mix a gallon of warm water with a 1/2 cup of and 1/4 cup of . Saturate a microfiber towel or rag in the mixture and wipe down blinds. Once you have thoroughly wiped down blinds with the mixture, rinse the mixture off with water and dry with a towel.

White Distilled Vinegar is a perfect option to kill the germs, cut the grease, and remove the grime! If you’re worried about the scent of vinegar, I am obsessed with these that come in three different scents. My favorite is lavender!

Check back next week for cleaning recipes for the kitchen using vinegar!

Sunshine is Coming…

Winter Blues? New Year Slump? Lack of sunshine?

Call it whatever you want, but this time of year always gets me feeling meh. All the cozy, warm holidays are behind us….yet, the warmth of Summer nights and beach trips aren’t quite close enough.

Just a few weeks ago, I was making big New Year goals full of excitement and positivity. But here I find myself at the end of March fighting the slump.

I HATE feeling blah. So, I am sharing some of the ways I fight the slump and try to stay motivated, happy, and feeling my best.

  1. Mindset. When I wake up thinking, “I am so tired” or “I am so not feeling this day,” it results in have a terrible day. So, I literally wrote this quote on a sticky note and read it to myself every. single. morning. “I radiate confidence and positivity!” Let your mind tell your body how it feels, not the other way around. I have pinned some of my favorite positive quotes, here!
  2. Personal Development. It sounds super, cheesy…or maybe super, obvious if you’re into PD. While I was pregnant, I fell in love with personal development books. There are some really great, life changing books out there. Yes, that sounds cliché, but it’s true. If you’re rolling your eyes, it’s okay. I get it. I used to do the same thing, I don’t know if I thought I was above personal development books or if I thought they were a scam. But as I write that I cringe, because now I am the biggest fan. If you’re a novicepersonal-development-reader (yes, I just made that a thing), start small. I have a board on Pinterest of some of my favorite quotes from some of my favorite authors, you can find here. If you are like me and don’t have a lot of extra time to actually read, I highly recommend Audible. You can listen to audio books before bed, in the car, or while you workout. It’s like itunes for books, you can try for free here! OR there are a ton of free podcasts that focus on personal development, as well.
  3. Move your body. Go for a walk. Go to the gym. Find a home workout you like. Just move. Elle Woods knew what she was talking about when she said, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t.” It doesn’t have to be super intense, you don’t even have to know what you’re doing. Turn on some music and dance around your house, seriously..it’s the cheapest therapy you’ll find. Even better, bundle up and get outside and go for a walk…cold sunshine is better than no sunshine.
  4. DETOX. Detox from the tv, junk food, sitting on the couch. When I feel myself getting in a slump, it’s normally after a weekend of eating junk, not drinking enough water, and lack of sleep. I know what to do to make myself feel better, but sometimes in that slump making the first move is hard. So, I start with baby steps. I’ll drink more water. Seriously, water is the cure to everything…just ask any mom. I force myself to turn the TV off at 10pm. Late night Netflix’ing results in late night snacking and exhaustion. Binge watching Netflix is awesome, once in awhile…but if I let myself do it every single night, I am tired, lazy, grouchy, basically I am not the best version of myself, not even a little bit. When I go off the rails with junk food, I always do a simple, gentle Detox. I’ve talked about it plenty of times so I won’t rant again, but if you’re interested in the deets check here. This DETOX helps me get back on track focused on my health, boosts my natural energy, and clears my digestive tract of the junk. Your “detox” may look different, maybe you go into an online shopping spree or an endless candy crush tournament. So my advice is find the things that weight you down in a slump, and detox!
  5. Change it up. Change your routine. I can’t get out of my slumps when I stick in the same routine. Sometimes that means getting out of the house and doing something fun with Benjamin. Sometimes just changing my normal radio station or podcast can work. If we don’t like where we are at (insert middle of a slump), change it!
  6. Treat Yourself. What would make you feel good? For me, a new pair of leggings, a walk around Target with a vanilla latte or a pedicure. Yep, any of those

would do the trick. I’m not saying to go drown your sorrows with retail therapy. But sometimes a latte and a little you time are all it takes. Check out some of my Amazon Favorites here, including my fave leggings that feel Lululemon soft without the steep price! I am also obsessed with this brand, Rad Vibes Only, that offers apparel with positive, fun sayings! You gotta check them out! You can use the discount count ColdCoffeeGrind for 10% off your order! You’re welcome!

7. Talk about free therapy. As cheesy as it may sound, journaling is therapeutic. There’s so many types of journaling, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to sit down as your 10 year old self and document the dramatics of your day. I mean you totally can, and I know a lot of people who thrive for that. For me, I love bible journaling, it’s like coloring for adults. I also found a morning affirmation journal to be helpful, each day I list 5 things I am thankful for and 5 affirmations. I’ll share with you my example for today’s entry, it doesn’t have to be super serious, but I think it’s a positive way to start the morning.

    1. THANKFUL
      1. I am thankful for the sunshine.
      2. I am thankful for a warm car to get Benjamin to and from school.
      3. I am thankful for coffee.
      4. I am thankful for Benjamin’s 3429382 different laughs
      5. I am thankful for audiobooks.
    2. AFFIRMATIONS
      1. I am strong.
      2. I am calm, happy, and at peace.
      3. I am a great mom.
      4. I choose to not criticize myself or others around me.
      5. I am doing my best and that is enough.

These are the ways I work myself out of slump. I would love to hear what helps you fight the Winter blues and stay happy! Comment below with what works for you a#nd remember, sunshine is coming! #allthepraisehands

It always sounds easier than the effort it actually takes, but the first step for me is making the decision the feel better!

Until next time!

When You’re Sick, but You’re also a Mom…

Remember the days when you would stay home, wrap up in a warm blanket, sleep the sickness away, and maybe even catch up on you’re favorite show? I used to LOVE watching old episodes of One Tree Hill. Being sick, was sort of glorious. Fast forward a few years, and being sick is not an option. Or maybe I should say, a sick day is not an option. Whether you’re a mom of babes, teenagers, or somewhere in-between, those darling, bosses of yours are never going to approve when you call in for a sick day.

We have been doing pretty-okay at avoiding too many of the sicknesses going around this year. Especially considering Benjamin is in his first year of preschool, hello ALL the germs. But last week, Benjamin got a pretty nasty head cold. I’m usually pretty immune to his germs. #momlife But this time, my over confidence got me and kicked me down real quick. So, I’m gonna share all the things that helped me be as present as possible while this nasty cold has made my throat feel like fire with a throbbing headache.

First up, hot tea with honey, cinnamon, & apple cider vinegar. I know what you’re thinking. who wants to drink vinegar when you feel sick? This little mixture is a miracle worker for kicking a cold or soothing a sore throat. Just make your favorite tea, add 1 tablespoon of ACV and honey/cinnamon to taste. Here are some of my favorite’s: Tea, Vinegar, Cinnamon, A Feel Good Mug.

Next, a good humidifier with an essential oil diffuser. You can easily google essential oil blends with your symptoms. I love peppermint for a stomach bug, and eucalyptus with orange for a cold. If you’re looking for a good humidifier with the essential oil tray, this is the one I use and love: Humidifier

Third, be comfy! Even if you typically don’t buy into the whole “leggings are pants” debate, when you’re sick there is NO debate… leggings are PANTS! Put on a good pair of leggings and a comfy top. If you can stay in, make it a pajama day at home. I’m sure you won’t hear any complaints. There are my all time favorite leggings, but I also love these budget friendly ones too! Pair it with an uplifting sweatshirt, and you’re bound to feel better soon….or at least that is what I tell myself! I love this sweatshirt, and actually everything this brand. They donate $1 from EVERY purchase to Mental Health America, which is the nation’s leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of those living with mental illness and to promoting overall mental health. I love the cause and think this is SO important and raising aware for those who struggle! I was able to get a 10% discount for my readers so feel free to shop and use ColdCoffeeGrind at checkout!

Next up, I may sound like an 80 year old on this one but get yourself a heating pad. Whether you’re having tummy issues or body aches from a cold, a heating pad can be your best friend. If you’re not about the electric ones, try a microwave heating pad.

I have ranted about this product for your kids before, but it totally works for YOU too. WinkⓇ Immune, an elderberry blend, does wonders for preventing a cold or stop symptoms as soon as they start. I also love their Chest Rub. I use it for sinuses and headaches before bed. I will also try a natural remedies before having to reach for Excedrin. You can shop here and get a 15% discount with the code JessicaS15 at checkout!

And because I don’t want to park my toddler in front of a tv until I am feeling like playing chase, I pull out some of his favorite puzzles, books, and this ABC Case that he is obsessed with right now. Don’t get me wrong, we will also put some TV in there too. He is currently obsessed Peppa Pig and LeapFrog’s Word Factory.

Lastly, I know not everyone has a support system close by, but if you do.. ask for HELP. Asking for help is one of the hardest things for me, so I get it. But when you’re really sick, sometimes what you need is a solid sleep or a few hours of rest. What’s that saying about not being able to pour from an empty cup? Unfortunately, there isn’t a discount code or an Amazon link to fill your cup, but there are plenty of ways to take a moment for yourself when you need it. Even if that means a little extra quiet time than normal or watching an extra episode of Peppa.

I would love to hear how you get through a cold or sick day with kids. Have any favorite products? Natural remedies? Please share in the comments!

As always, thanks for reading and following along!

xoxo,

Brittany

P.S. Check out my Winter Survival Guide for toddlers here!

Winters Items for Toddlers!

My Favorite Winter Items for Toddlers

Although my son seems to have ZERO cares about the COLD, it totally effects his body. From runny noses to dry skin to layers upon layers of clothes, this Winter weather is not going to slow him down. So, I have had to find ways to keep up (LOL) and also keep him warm…even though he doesn’t seem to notice the fact it’s even slightly chilly. Seriously, how do they do it? AND at what age to we realize, IT’S COLD?!

https://amzn.to/2AZHst7

Today I am sharing a few items that have helped us stay warm, healthy, and happy during this crazy, cold season. Click the underlined words for a direct shopping link!

  1. Wink® Immune & Chest Rub: Last Winter, it seemed like Benjamin had a season-long cold. We have been trying to prevent that this year by using Wink’s Immune, which is their proprietary elderberry syrup. It’s a must have for maintaining a healthy immune system during the Winter months! The Chest Rub has become part of our nightly routine. It’s a natural formula that contains safe amounts of eucalyptus oil to open airways and lavender to calm and sooth. If you are not familiar with this company, I highly recommend giving their website a look! If you are looking for safe, drug-free products for your littles, they had quality-trust products from bath bubbles to cough syrup! For 15% OFF your order, use the code JessicaS15 at checkout.
  2. Cute Hats: I am obsessed with finding cute, Winter hats for Benjamin. Luckily, he loves wearing them, so he has quite the collection. From Amazon to Etsy, I have found WARM, hats to keep ears covered and wind out! This is one of my favorite Etsy shops, click here. Amazon also has a great-Prime selection, click here.
  3. High Socks: You know when you pick your child up or lift them into the car and their pants rise exposing their ankles? THAT makes me cringe. Again, this sounds dramatic and most of our children have little cares about the cold weather. I’m pretty sure my son would run outside pant-less and be in his glory… meanwhile, I am dying on the inside when I see the slightest sliver of skin peaking out. So basically, for my peace of mind only, in the Winter we wear high socks. No one likes cold ankles, or at least this mom is not a fan.
  4. Water Bottle: I think the moment you give birth, you turn into the hydration police. Like have you ever met a mom who doesn’t ask if you’re drinking enough water? My mom still questions me on my water intake. But I can’t even be mad, because now I’m on water patrol. Seriously though, water is so easy to forget when it’s cold out. We take a water bottle with us everywhere, so I love these spill-proof bottles!
  5. Car Seat Safe Jacket: Is anything more frustrating than trying to find that balance between a jacket that is warm enough and a jacket that is safe in the car seat? If we are going to play outside in the snow, then Benjamin is looking for Michelin Man. Riding in the car is a whole different story. For in and out of the car, we use this Columbia brand jacket. It thin enough to be car seat safe, yet warm enough to keep the mom guilt away.
  6. On-The-Go Kleenex: I seriously considered getting a patent on a tool belt for tissues. I am not being dramatic on this one. My son needs a tissue every two seconds. I have staggered tissue boxes all around the house so there is always one nearby. These on-the-go Kleenex pouches are amazing. I just snap them onto by bag and his backpack so there is always one when needed. You can only use your hands so many times before it’s not really effective. #momlife Thanks for Amazon, you can get pouches in bulk, 10 packs for $18.99.
  7. Humidifier with Essential Oil Tray: This one doesn’t need a lot of explaining. I have one in the main living area and in the bedroom. It acts as a humidifier and diffuser in one! I am obsessed.
  8. Indoor Activity Blocks ($20 off): Although we try to get outside as much as possible, indoor activities come in handy during the Winter. Benjamin is obsessed with these foam blocks. If you follow me on Instagram (@coldcoffeegrind), they make plenty of appearances. Between making forts, building houses, sounding out letter shapes, and stacking towers, these blocks are well worth the investment (plus they’re $20 OFF right now)!

I could probably go on and on, but those are some of my favorite Winter go to’s for Benjamin! I’d love to hear how you get through Winter with your littles and what items you find most helpful. Post in the comments below.

Apple Cider Vinegar Detox

I’m sure you’ve seen all the hype on Organic Apple Cider Vinegar with Mother and the health benefits it can provide. While I have been a big believer of drinking 2 tablespoons of ACV daily, I decided to change things up a few months ago and I wanted to share my Detox_16ozexperience!

Since White House Foods® came out with their Detox drink, it has been a game changer for me. The Detox is a “ready-to-drink” mix of Organic ACV with mother, lemon, cinnamon, and honey. Each month, I do a “detox week” which consists of 1 bottle per day for 7 days. I drink half of the bottle in the morning as soon as I wake up and the other half in the evening before bed. When I am not detoxing, I continue with two tablespoons of Organic ACV per day.

Why I LOVE this detox?

  • Digestion issues – no more! Even after a weekend of eating junk or a vacation, a detox will totally straighten out my system and keep me regular!
  • I sleep like a baby, not an actual baby… I actually sleep sound, which was next to impossible after having my son.
  • ENERGY. Gosh, so much natural energy. I just realized I haven’t had coffee yet, it’s 2 p.m. on a detox day!
  • Bloat, be gone. I am not kidding when I say I have had major digestion issues which have always led to crazy bloat. Detoxing once a month has played a major role in healing my digestive issues and reducing bloat. #amen
  • Skin. I always thought acne was something that just went away with your awkward stage. Apparently I was wrong about both, acne and awkward stages never actually leave you. The Detox seems to help keep my breakouts to a minimum, which is an added bonus because I never expected my skin to be affected but I will gladly take it!

DSC_0124.jpg

I have always been a firm believer in the magical powers (a little dramatic there) of Organic ACV, but I am even more passionate about the White House Foods® Detox !

If you’re interested in trying the Detox, it can be purchased online (click here), Wal-Mart, Martin’s, Food Lion, and many other locations. If you need some help finding it near you, comment below. I’m happy to help!

Looking for a little extra support & accountability to complete a DETOX? I hold monthly 7 Day DETOX Groups online! It’s SO fun to do a DETOX together, stay accountable, & share the experience with others. The group is TOTALLY free, all you need is 7 bottles of White House Detox! If you’d like more info or you’re interested in the next group. Click HERE, and fill out the form!

As always, thanks for reading!
